This Guardian article certainly is discouraging reading for all us aspiring writers. Even professional writers are finding it harder and harder to make a living through their art.
All the while, publishers and Amazon are seeing increasing profits (but they’ll probably keep complaining that the market is dwindling, so they can keep the money for themselves).
I’m not complaining that it’s difficult to make a living of your art; it’s always been like that. But when big corporations are scrapping in billions of dollars and still underpaying the people who do the actual work (this includes the editors and graphic artists too), something’s wrong with the business.
