Those of you who have dropped by recently may have noticed my absence. Some of this is due to me being busy at work and having been on holiday where I didn’t have internet. More importantly, though, it’s because I simply didn’t know what to write about.
It’s no secret that I run this blog partly because I want to make it a full time writer one day and that won’t happen unless I have some social media presence to support my books (you know, the ones that are buried so deeply in my current writing process that they don’t even exists as more than something I’ll eventually do once I get good enough at this short story thing). But if that was my only reason for running the blog, I would’ve given up a long time ago.
But I haven’t because I also want this to be a place where I can interact with like-minded readers and writers. I want this to be a place where I discus stories and writing and how to improve mine and your skills at the latter. I want this to be my way of being part of the fantasy and science fiction community.
Have I succeeded in any of this?
No. Not at all.
So I’ve been thinking lately of what I have to write about that might interest others as well as myself and ties into speculative writing. And yesterday the answer came, seemingly out of nowhere. Short stories. More specifically reviews of short stories.
I read a lot of them, 2-3 a day usually. And since my novel review posts have been some of my more popular ones, I figured, hey, maybe people would like to read short story reviews as well.
Especially if you’re not already into short fiction but consider giving it a go, it can be a daunting task just figuring out where to start looking. There’s so many different magazines out there with their own unique editorial views, especially within speculative fiction. So starting some time in the beginning of July, I’ll post my recommendations among the short stories I’ve read lately with an explanation of why I thought they’d be worth your time as well.
The posts will come at irregular intervals to begin with whenever I’ve read enough good stories for me to post about. But hopefully I’ll end up with a suitable schedule for posting regularly after having been at it for a while.
That’s it for this time. I hope you’ll give this new series a chance and let me know what you think about it.
