I’ve been so busy with NaNoWriMo lately that I haven’t really been updating the blog. Well, it’s time to fix that. Though, it’ll be a short update.
In my last stat update I’d reported on spending just above 33 hours on what I consider deliberate writing practice during a three week period. Now it’s been another three weeks, so I figured another status update was in place.
This time I manage to creep up just below 32 hours of deliberate practice. So we’re in the same area, though, going in the in the wrong direction it seems. Which kind of sucks considering my goal reach 20 twenty hours a week, which would’ve see me hit 60 hours for the period, nearly double of what I’m currently doing.
There’s a long way to go, but it’s not all bad though. Those three weeks included one week of family vacation where I honestly didn’t expect to get any writing done. And though I toned down on the writing exercises, I still got some story writing done.
The three weeks also included a lot of preparation for NaNoWriMo, which means even less time for exercises. Combined this brings me in at 8 hours of writing exercises (against 12 for the previous period), 6.5 hours of story writing (against 7.5), and more than 16.5 hours of reading (against less than 13.5). On top of that I’ve started using visualization as a mean of practice (in total I did just above 0.5 hours of visualization). At first I was a bit skeptical, but now that I’m doing NaNoWriMo, I can really see the positive effect of spending a few minutes imagining the scenes in detail during the day before I start writing them.
In essence, I’m not were I want to be practicing wise, but as you’ll see in the next update, NaNoWriMo might change that.
